Ok here goes I have posted on here once before when i first saw this site right after i had mine put in back in aug i think it was aug 23rd i got it in and i posted the next week. well i had stabing and poking pains where it was and you know how its in there pointed side down so they can pull it back out. Well guess what! I went for my follow up visit to check placement and they couldnt find the strings! I freaked out i thought it fell out so and i had been having sex and thought i was going to end up pregnate again which i dont want or need i already have 2 kids and a soon to be step daughter that agervates me beyond belief. So they did an x-ray and it was still there thats what the girl that did the x ray told me. So i went back to the room thinking that they could just go and get the strings and put them back where they need to be. WRONG! The dr comes in and says well its still there and then he proceaded to tell me the damn thing is UP SIDE DOWN!!! How in the hell does that happen?! I asked him if it would still work and he said yes cause of the hormones. Then i asked him if since the pointed side is up instead of down like it needs to be if it could rupture through my uterus and he said IT SHOULDNT! Ok now im thinking well it shouldnt have turned up side down, and now your telling me it shouldnt rupture through. So i preceaded to ask so when the time comes to get it out how are you going to get it out? He said "I dont Know" "Maybe it will flip back around to how it needs to be by then"
Ok thats not it. I stay up very late like right now its 3:30 in the morning and i havent slept yet and when i do sleep i can sleep all day long if my boyfriend doesnt make me get up. I am always tired and i have no energy. After i had my daughter i had alot of energy i had lost 90 pounds on my check up after having her the scale was 90 pounds less than what it was 4 months befor i got pregnate with her, so of course i had lots of energy. Then i got this put in and now im dragging ass so to speak. And now im wishing i would have gotten my tube tied instead.
I have hot flashes, i am always hot even when im out side and its like 30 degres out there now. I dont wear a coat just because i will start to sweat like i have been working out for hours.
Sex is VERY painful, put me into tears painful. I will take it as long as i can befor the pain is unbearable and i start to cry and sometime scream because i cant handle it. That is putting a real big strain on our relationship. Also to top this off i am Rapid Cycling Bi Polar. Im 23 years old my kids are 20 months and 4 months then my boyfriend has a 5 year old daughter and i loose my cool with her alot. My meds are not even able to controle this anymore. (and i take alot of them) My mood swings are not just aimed at her but towards my boyfriend who i have been with for 5 years and that girls mother and grandmother they get alot of my anger.
I have very rude out burst like i have terets or something i am not myself anymore by no means. I have turned into a mean person. but my kids i can keep my cool with them for the most part except when my son the oldest one starts throwing his fits that last for ever.
I cant concentrate at all and that is hurting my grades alot in college.
My house is not staying clean because i dont have the energy to get up and clean it and if i do i cant stay focused long enough to do it all (wich that could be related to my bi polar syndrom)
I dont want to have sex at all still.
I dont know if all of this has to do with my bi polar or if its the mirena.
I dont want it out because i dont want anymore kids and i dont have insurance to even go see if its still in my uterus. but i get bad stomach pains and i get really hot then very dizzy and start seeing black and purple spots and feel like i will pass out. My psorisis has broke out even worse.
I have started noticing joint pain.
Im not suisidal or anything but sometimes i go to bed hoping that i dont wake up in the morning and that could be bi polar getting bad but i really honestly dont know what to do. Because if i get it out i cant afford the pill which i wont remember to take, and i will need to get my tubes tied which i cant afford and dont know if i might want more kids when mine get older. But i AHHH!!! I just dont know what to do anymore. I would like to sue the pants off this stupid company cause of how i feel and they might have to do surgery to get it out which can ruin all chances of me having more babies forever.

After three years my back started to hurt, I hardly could walk, I got extreme pains in my uterus area. I went to the hospital and they found out there were cystes growing on my ovary and there were infections and abnormal tissue growth. This was according to my doctor a possible side effect caused by the Mirena moving in my uterus. I needed two operations and it's all gone now.
Mirena isn't always the solution for us women.
I have heard lots of horrible things about this product and i dont understand why they continue to market it as the best solution for women that dont want to get their tubes tied. Im waiting for the day i see them on the tv getting sued but its almost like someone has to die in order for them to do anything like that.
I've heard a lot of good things too. Like any medicine has it bad sides, Mirena has too. The best thing a woman can do is making sure she's well informed of all the aspects before she's getting the Mirena and when she already has one and feels anything different or is getting pains, warn the doctor immediatly like the instruction says.
that is true i mean it is keeping me from having more babies for the time being and i dont really have much pain its all the other things that i am experiancing that worry me and my dr keeps telling me it is normal and will soon go away but he has never seen a mirena turn up side down befor and that really worries me

YES!!!! I have had hair loss and could not figure out what it was. My hair has always been thick even after I had my last daughter 2 years ago. I have had the mirena for almost a year and started realizing that my hair was thinning out about 6 months ago but did not know what was causing it. I thought it was a good idea to get because my husband and I have 2 young children. If I knew this was a side effect I would not have gotten it at all. My best friend has it also and her hair thinned out so bad that she had been seeing a dermatologist and getting shots in her head! They could not figure out what was causing the hair loss. We are both young women (28 years old). Other side affects that I have had and just told my husband about yesterday was that I felt like I am going crazy. I have no patience with my children, emotional all the time, bad thoughts, and I cannot concentrate on my school work at all. It's like I have a mental block and just cannot think. I am a 4.0 student but have been having so many problems lately. I found other posts where women said they have been losing their hair since Mirena. I called my doctor and made an appt to get this removed this week!!!! I am going to submit a report to the FDA also because this is not one of the listed side effects. Ladies please choose another form of birth control before you get Mirena!
So I have the same problem with the hair loss! Ive been on Mirena for almost two years now and love everything about it. Exept for the hair loss, my hair has been thinning for the past year and a half, I know it dosent have to do with my baby because shes almost two now. Ive went to my dermotologist a few times for blood work etc. The results were always negative. I went to countless hair doctors and was put on special shampoos. Nothing was working so I called a mirena hotline to ask if that was one of the side effects and was told that less then 5% of women experienced alopecia, another word for hair loss. I got my mirena removed today and will be waiting for results, hopefully this was the right choice to make..
i just got marena i have onlly had some crampin n i feel a metal block n dizziness but i just got it today....
Hey.. I feel you on the Terets syndrome! I am feeling like im ruining everything with my steady boyfriend. Also no Sex drive. Pain in stomach constantly. I have no energy. Dizzy. Hot flushes. Constant weight gain and cant lose at all. It awefull! Having mine removed in a week however so cant wait to see if it gets better.
i have had the mirena for 8 months now and i went to the dr a week ago and found out it's flipped upside down and they have to go through my belly button to get it out because i was preg with twins lost one and i also have a 2 yr old my daughter just turned 8 months and i have cervical cycsts so i know where most of you are comin from if they go in vaginally i have too much scar tissue they could ruin my chances of having kids again im 23 and scared shitless, but i hope for the better and good luck to you all

Hi,, I have the Mirena put in. I have had it for almowt a year now. I used to be on the Depo-Prover(sp) shot and it caused me ALL sorts of issues, well when my doc said that this had the same hormone I knew I shouldnt have done it. But I did, and Guess what , Its gettn took out and I am getting the Tubel lIgation done,. I am FAT..and I m moody alot and cant ever clean anymore., I have my good days and evertything is fine. But when I have my bad days. They are REALLY bad, Good Luck to all and if you dont want this just make sure you dont get a depo shot instead because it is the same, its even MORE concertated he told me..
I have had mirena in for 7 months now and i absolutely love it the bleeding in the beginning was rough but my cycle is back to normal now its low maintenance I have gained a little weight but that's the risk of taking hormones but I have one big problem its killing my sex life my husband can feel the actual device and when he cant the string irritates him!! I had the mirena in for two years before I had it taken out. I couldnt enjoy sex anymore. After sex I wanted to scream it hurt so bad. I bleed straight for 6 months. Even when I had my periods they seemed heavier than lighter. The mirena gave me cysts on my ovaries. This product is awful and they need to recall it.
My gyno suggested I get the Mirena & it seemed like a good idea. My right side hurt for several days after & I bled. Not menstrual, blood. This eventually went away. This was replaced by a brown discharge that never went away. I bled almost every week & my uterus never really regained it's shape. The discharge started to smell. Bad. I went back to my gyno & she said it was normal & would go away. This went on for a year. Other women are saying it lessens sex drive. Smelling like that kills sexy dead. I couldn't stand it. I had a trip to Cancun coming up & I decided I'd rather have my period than go like that in a bikini for a week. My doctor insisted it would be OK. I took it out myself. It wasn't easy but it was worth it. So I've stocked up on condoms & everything is back to normal.
I have had mirena going on two years now I am shocked to here some of the stuff you guys are saying because I had that same stuff happen to me. The weight gain that I was exspecting but feeling so down and depressed and having everything bother you...nope wasn't exspecting that... I also have a problem with having energy to clean up cook or anything what my boyfriend would call lazy lol but the worst of all the nasty smell that I have coming from " down there " I have no idea what to do when I went to the doc for it twice they gave me meds and it still won't got away I don't feel da same as I use to and I sometimes don't like the person that I am right now I want it out... but the sad part is that it is doing it job I haven't gotton pregnant lol... please someone tell me you have these same problems.
TAKE OUT MIRENA! obviously it's causing woman trouble and pain. take the other simple contraceptives such as the pill, make life easier and just take it out.
I had it for 5 years & loved it so much I got it replaced with a new one after trying Yaz & hated it. Just got it back in today!
Just found out, I have huge OVARIAN CYST, and my mirena is upside down and in the wrong spot. I HATE THE PEOPLE WHO INVENTED THIS CRAP

And the cramping the bleeding longer. And so much for the sex after i get done with the sex i have this horriable feeling as if was having a child! And the so, bad oder not cool i dont like to smell but there is nothing i can do so i went to the store to buy douch to see it will help because i get so enbared of the smell.I have never douch but we shall see if it work's!!!I've had merina since 04/10. I really dont want kid's but it is doing it's job like you said. I also check to see if the sting is there everytime i have sex!!
The Mirena has killed my sex life I cant have an orgasm... the whole sexual feeling is gone I am numb.. my bf is working his ass off trying to please me and he's getting frusterating and so am I like wtf... I took every kind of birth control.. i have a 10 mos son not trying to get prego right now but im not trying to be abstinent either. I did a lot of research and come to find the reason y many of you females are having hair loss is due to thyroid problems... I just called my doc today its tubal ligation time..getting those tubes tied and many insurances cos pay for it.. just check yours if not its like 2gs n the reversial is costy like 4gs
hi im 27 and i have had the mirena in since march 2010 and i had my period straight until june and then when that stoped i go like every 2 weeks then i had spotting in between and for the last two months i go for like 2 and a half weeks out of the month i have severe cramps where i cant move at all a week before i start then during it and after so basically im hurting all the time i bloat all the time unless i drink water and not eat anything at all which is not good to do i have had severe hair loss since ive been on it i feel like im losing control and like all you have said i haved no sex drive i could go with out sex for a long time and its effecting my marriage and i dont need that and my kids they drive me nuts i know there doing nothing wrong i just get so upset with them and i have outburst for no reasons at all wow if i would have known all this i wouldnt have got this in.

I had the mirena put in end of August and I did it bc my mom and my coworker had gotten it and they both loved it. Recently have been losing my hair and my hair is already thin so I will be taking this out as soon as possible!
can u remove the mirena yourself? x ive had it fitted today, but im almost positive its not suppose to hurt this much, whilsy having it done and having the insturment removed that they put up ya to see, i bled like a waterfall all over the place... is this normal?
I had the mirena put in in september and I can not get rid of the horrible lower back pain stomach cramps and bleeding every few days too especially after I have sex. I am not energetic at all anymore and I feel like everything is just so irritating. I do not have insurance anymore to go to the hospital to see why this thing is messing with me so much....does anyone have an idea as to how much it costs to get the mirena removed?
Ok, well I just had that little devil removed! Wow - what a waste of money for me!!! The strings ended up going missing so they took it out in surgery for me. I had it in for 10 months and had the following side effects - Acne (sore nodes on my face (chin and forehead) and on my scalp, greasy skin and hair (going from really dry skin and hair), spotting ALL the time and for most of the month - which was a huge strain on my sex life, picked up weight and gymed my butt off to no avail, I had constant and random cramps, my hair fell out in clumps - how I'm not bald is a mystery to me - and was tired all the time. Glad it's out - hope everything returns to normal. However, my sister has one too, and is very happy with hers - so I guess it's the luck of the draw :)
I have had the mirena for about a year now. I thought it was good but for the last 6 months i have been having severe abdominal pain. My doctor keeps telling that it is normal. But pain like this can't be normal. It hurts so bad you can't move. And it is off and on all day. I have no sex drive which is hurting my relationship. I have no energy. I am getting it removed thursday and i cant wait. I would not recommend this for anyone It is horrible!
i had mirena in for 3 months and at 1st i thought it was because of baby being born my hair falling out but for about a month my hair is falling out drastically....im phoning my doctor to get it removed...definetly!!!!!!!!

The commercials said it would be as easy as if you never were on birth control but a yeasr later I'm still not pregnant. When i went to get it taken it they couldn't find it and my doc had to call an assistant in for help when they finally did find it they showed it to me and it looked like it had grown into my uterus because it was covered in tissue. In my effort to get pregnant i have never had a regular cycle, it comes anywhere form 3-5 weeks after my last. In one case i didn't have my period for 5 weeks so i took a couple of pregnancy tests over the period of 3 days. I had one come up positive but then the next day it was negative. I then didn't get my period or a positive test so I went to the doctors and she couldn't find anything wrong so she gave me a shot so that I would get it again. Since then i will have a day with almost black slime discharge then nothing for a day and then my period plus engorged breasts. It had been a month since my last period and for the past 4 days i have had dark brown boogery discharge HELP!!!

OMG..Ijust found out after 4yrs of having the IUD that is upside down...I was having hot flashes and im only 32 and I thought I was going crazy, Now I have to have surgery to have the thing removed....this is sooo crazy
Reading through all these comments, I am going to have my mirena coil remove asap. I have had it for the last three years. I've had no problems till three months ago. I have been bleeding everyday with this horrible smell. Went to my GP and she gave me tablets to stop the bleeding. I noticed my hair falling out and getting thinner. Spots all over my face and this is killing my confidence. Monday morning, I am going to have it remove.

I went to my doctors this week because four and half weeks after having it put in I still can't do my trousers up and suspected an ovarian cyst - seeing as 12% of people who have them put in get a cyst. Doctor no 1 and 2 said this wouldn't be likely, but noticed my threads were gone. Sent me to hospital for a scan. The scan showed a 5cm ovarian cyst where I suspected and also that the Mirena had turned upside down (although the person doing the scan didn't spot this, neither did his boss - it was only when they showed me the picture that I saw it.)
It is definitely making my periods lighter, although spotting etc hasn't stopped since it was put in. I can't stand the smell of my blood now (like copper?) and I had the impact the hormones are having my body - low mood, lack of concentration, tiredness, bloating, itchy skin and the cyst of course. I'm a bit scared about how they take it out now - anyone know? And I know they are going to try to persuade me to put another one in. Here's hoping the removal goes okay.
I have had it in for two weeks and I have never had a child. I have had light bleeding since I have got it in, besides that I haven't noticed any change. I am hoping none if the things above happen to me.

Yep, so far so worse . . . Women should be told about hair loss one of the possible side effects, because there are so many of us ,going through this nightmare. It's not fair!!! I had mirena for 5 months . my hair felt out like crazy , my hands are full of hair when i wash them. I had it taken out 2 months ago . it seemed to fall less a bit, but few days ago again like crazy. When i only touch my hair with hand ,i have more than 20 strands in my hand. so you can imagine how much are left in my hairbrush. It;s a dissaster!!! I dont know how much time it will take for my hair loss to stop .
why I did not read these post before, I had Mirena for almost 3 years, and a year ago I got alopecia. This is the worst thing I'd ever had, but I never imagine that the cause of my problems were this think.. Tomorrow I will call my doctor to take out this Mirena... I hate it!!
I got my mirena out 5 days ago bc it was causing pain and was upside down when it was upside down and in could I be pregnant right now because it wasn't in properly?
Hi. Thought I would let you no my story. I had the mirena coil fitted 4 years ago after the birth of my daughter. I'm now 41. Suffered heavy periods and fibroids. The first 5 months I didn't no if I was coming or going. But it settled after that and fully enjoyed 2 1/2 years of no periods. The last six months however things have got worse. I'm lazy, no interest in anything, moody, stressed out most of the time over nothing. My skin isn't as clear and gained 2 stone over the 4 years. Gone from a size 12 to a 16/18!! Not happy. My partner has seen a huge difference in me and it's putting a strain on our relationship. He is the most gorgeous lovely man I've ever met. I no I'm not me and I want me back. I'm at hospital to have it removed tomorrow as my wires were lazered off during cervical treatment so my local doctors can't do it. Dreading the mirena crash and periods but I can't bear to feel like this anymore. The cramps, pain in my pelvis, sharp pain during intercourse, dizziness, forgetfullness, weight gain, anxiety, laziness to name a few things I defo won't miss!!
